Times Square Theater
The human capacity to love has no limits, no boundaries, no edges. It is fitting, therefore, to construct a symbol of this boundless love in the infinite landscape of Times Square. Love’s h|Edge proposes a playful family of four heart-shaped, hedge rows that invite visitors on their own journeys of love and discovery. Within the garden, three “Heart Pitter-Patios” of differing shapes and sizes represent a rewriting of the "Code of Love.” Generated from ADA building code dimensions, the spaces are fundamentally inclusive, and assert the breadth and possibilities of an expansive compassion for one another – one without edges. Similar to its host, Times Square, Love’s h|Edge will also dynamically change throughout the month of February. During special curated events, visitors will be welcomed to “Fill-up the Heart,” by adding artificial roses to the mesh seating and trellis of the “Pitter-Patios.” Over the span of 28 days the hearts, carved within the hedge rows, will blossom just in time for the arrival of Spring.
Each Heart “Pitter-Patio” is outlined with an illuminated, wire mesh bench and vertical trellis. It is an area for pause, for reflection, and for gathering. At special curated events throughout the month of February, visitors will be invited to “Fill-up the Heart” with artificial roses. A rose may be placed with someone, for someone, in remembrance of someone, or for yourself. The primary goal is for the “Pitter-Patios” to blossom and display the transformative power of all types of love.
